3 Minute Fridays: Meaningful Work, Systems, & Goals

Welcome to 3 Minute Fridays, a new series where I share some thoughts from this week in a short and easy to read post. Enjoy!

Here’s what I’ve been thinking…

Doing Meaningful Things is More Difficult

This thought came to me when I was thinking of ways to be more environmentally friendly. The easy and cheap solutions are not normally the environmental ones. It takes more work to try and be more sustainable.

Doing something meaningful will likely require more work, but that’s what makes it meaningful.

Everything Can Be Systemized

Systems are designed to improve efficiency. Whether that means saving time, money, or computing power, systems can make life easier.

Looking to grow your business? Implement a system. Trying to exercise more often? Come up with a system. Have new, unique challenges to solve? Create a system.

The system doesn’t have to be specific, it can be as simple as creating a two step process – I have a problem, I will try to solve the problem. It can also be as in depth as you want, especially if it is something you will use over and over again.

I use systems to get ready in the morning, to improve my efficiency at work, and to solve everyday problems. You likely have a system in place for many things already and may not realize it.

Without a Clear Goal You Are Lost

Without a clear goal you are stumbling in the dark looking for a light switch, hoping you run into something that will make it easier to see.

You should have a defined goal every day.

With it you can make steps in the process to work towards. It keeps you on track and working towards the outcome you desire.

A goal is to turn on the lights. A clearly defined goal is to walk to the wall where the light switch is and turn it on.

Outline your goal and the steps you will take to reach it. Now write it down and keep it where you can see it. This is especially important today with so many things fighting for our attention.

See you next Friday!
